“蒙牛速度”在中国企业界引人注目。CCTV2003“中国经济年度人物”对他的颁奖辞写道:“他是一头 牛,却跑出了火箭的速度!”

1978 年成为呼和浩特的大黑河养猪厂的一名养猪工人的开始至今,他走过了内蒙古伊利集团(原呼和浩特回民食品厂)厂长到生产经营副总裁,再到创建内蒙古 Mongolians 乳业(集团)股份有限公司并担任董事长兼总裁职务,这一切都证明了他的无限潜能。

Despite the fact that there may be unknown aspects to him, both he and Zheng Junhai, who were once colleagues for many years and fought on the battlefield of wealth creation, have different attitudes towards wealth: Zheng Junhai seems to want to take what doesn't belong to him, while Liu Yungang has given away his wealth. Recently, Liu Yungang initiated the establishment of the Old Cow Foundation. Members include himself as well as officials from dairy associations and middle-level leaders within Mongolians.
In an exclusive interview with First Financial Daily at Mongolians' headquarters on December 18th afternoon lasting over two hours, three cow-shaped crafts adorned his office space along with three pictures of cows inside.
It was a difficult decision
First Financial Daily: How difficult was it to make the decision to establish the foundation?
Liu Yungang: It took a long time; I've been thinking about this since late 2002. There were many discussions before making this decision. In those days I read quite a lot - mainly Lao Tzu's Analects.
By late 2003 we started operating this thing but during that year after making this decision I experienced happiness that one cannot experience in their entire life - a kind of happiness beyond ordinary people (he quickly unfastened his tie). Now my heart is very calm; I am not afraid of anyone threatening me nor do I worry about others misunderstanding my pursuit for wealth; finding partners for my children also became real (as he spoke).
First Financial Daily: Did your family agree with your decision?
Liu Yungang: My wife and two children signed an agreement later but when I told them about it at home in late 2003 they had mixed feelings. Family members agreed but understanding differed among them.
The newspaper asked if he thought others should follow suit:
"I never thought about it," said Liu Yungang candidly though some colleagues did have differing opinions because setting up such foundations can be challenging even for oneself let alone persuading others.
"The purpose is not just health development," explained Liu Yonggang further elaborating on why establishing such foundations are important.
Asking how these would benefit Monty Milk Industry long-term development:
"It will definitely bring benefits," replied Liu Yonggang confidently.
"How do you think these actions might help achieve success?"
"We need breakthroughs in management systems too."
The newspaper asked if founding such institutions could ensure longevity:
"That wouldn't be enough by itself."
"But what else?"
"There must be more!" He emphasized.
