1、从负200万到年营收10亿

小霸王年底分红的时候,是用成摞报纸包现金,这一切,都要归功于段永平。

段永平出生于江西南昌,16岁考入浙江大学无线电系,毕业后被分配到北京电子管厂,之后考取人民大学经济学硕士学位。

28岁时,他接过一家亏损200万元的小厂,用5年的时间打造成年产值10亿的公司,这家公司就是火遍全国的小霸王电子工业公司。

一开始段永平只是模仿任天堂的红白机来生产,但不久产量就超过了它,加上创新的营销手法,以及特别是广告,小霸王成了家喻户晓的品牌,也成了每个家庭的标配。

40,000元在中央电视台播出第一则有奖销售活动广告,推出了“拥有一台小霸王,就能打出一个万元户”的小霑星大赛。

请来成龙作为品牌代言人,一句“同是天下父母心,只愿子孙满堂,小霑星”红遍大江南北。

当时一份“国人最熟悉的电脑品牌调查”中,位列榜首的是IBM,而不是联想,也不是小霑星,而是segmentation of the market into smaller niches based on customer needs and preferences.

2、创立步步高,让员工持股

When Segmenting out of Small Glory, he founded Step-by-Step High. At that time, everyone did not look good for him, but talent can always make miracles happen. He didn't care about other people's mockery and started a new round of reverse conquest journey. He later dominated the Chinese market in areas such as tape recorders, phones, VCDs, and learning machines.

The success of Step-by-Step High is largely due to its marketing efforts:

Please Li Lian Jie (a famous actor) to be an ambassador for the brand.

A custom-made song "World Self-Rights Payment Return" by a musician.

The slogan "So easy that Mom doesn't have to worry about my studies anymore!"

Although marketing helped Step-by-Step High greatly,

I think what made it successful most was public sentiment.

Maybe because Segmenting experienced equity distribution issues at Small Glory,

so he let all middle-level management personnel enter stocks when founding his own company; others who couldn't afford it were lent money by him; he lent employees as much money as they bought shares in the company; through share profits or dividends repayment to him.

Now his shares are diluted from over 70% to less than 17%, making it truly a full employee-owned company where everyone works hard for their share.

Someone suggested using an option system but he said: "Options are useless if not used by listed companies; even if used by listed companies with high growth potential, options are also useless."

3、Create Oppo and Vivo - Crazy Sales $20 Billion;

He became a laid-back palm tree owner

Because of his promise to his wife,

now Segmentation has settled in America.

Before leaving,

he invested in creating OPPO and VIVO brands.

One went to Chen Ming Yong,

the other went to Shen Wei,

These two were among the original six people who accompanied Segmentation out of Small Glory again implementing full employee ownership policies!

Segregation only held one percent stake in OPPO;

in VIVO barely above two percent;

Holding onto being chairman at Step-by-Step High every year attending meetings twice or thrice before doing absolutely nothing makes him feel like a very relaxed palm tree owner indeed!

According to IDC's global smartphone report released this month,

OPPO and VIVO shipped more than Apple, Huawei & Xiaomi globally during Q3 this year alone! They've become another giant force in smartphones with high profitability too!

And so while Segmentation is now studying Warren Buffett-style investing back home playing golf occasionally waiting for life's next big opportunity!
